The Goal Behind the Strategy: Having the Best Time
I recently heard from one of you, "Gosh, I’m having the best time being retired!" What a smile that brought to my face! Isn’t that the ultimate return on investment? It is also the "why" behind the strategy we discussed last month. We aim for an efficient, good enough plan specifically to create the mental space required to actually reach that level of enjoyment.
The Reality of the Grind I know that for some of you, this sense of freedom feels far off. I speak with clients every week who are still in the thick of unfulfilling or taxing careers. It is a difficult position to be in since you are doing the responsible thing by showing up, but the daily grind is wearing thin.
If you feel stuck, keep these two things in mind:
Your plan is your permission. The work we are doing now is buying your future freedom. Every contribution is leading away from a role that no longer serves you.
Good enough is the path to being done. People often stay in draining jobs longer than necessary because they are waiting for the math to be perfect. My job is to show you when the numbers are actually strong enough to let you walk away sooner than you projected.
This Month’s Homework If you aren't sure where you want to go next, start with a lifestyle experiment. Identify one hobby, travel destination, or daily routine you envision for your retirement, and find a way to sample it this month. Getting it out of your head and into reality, even for a weekend, is the first step toward making a career pivot or retirement feel real rather than a leap of faith.
My Insight: Finding Your Best Time Whether you are already retired or counting down the months, your plan should do more than just grow. It should give you the freedom of options. If you’re currently in a role that feels like a struggle, let’s look at the data. We can model what a transition may look like so you aren't guessing about your timeline.
Checking In As we head into the summer, I’d love to hear what brings you the most joy lately. What are you most looking forward to when the work grind is finally behind you? And remember, if you want to talk, find some time here.
Talk soon,
